Brackets
Brackets are used:
- to enclose a parenthetical remark within a parenthetical statement. It is best to avoid such awkward constructions however.
- to enclose an interpolation in a quotation:
Blake is taking a stand against the capitalistic oppression of the poor when he writes: 'Is it [the widespread poverty of children] a holy thing to see...?'
