Curriculum Vitae (BrE) / Resume (USA) + letter of application

It is quite likely that at a certain point in time you will end up applying for a job. More often than not, this implies writing a letter of application + CV. In this section you will find do's/dont's, technicalities & useful phrases that, hopefully, will help you get the job. Your letter of application + CV is your first impression, so it is really important that you write them well, that you clearly demonstrate you know the conventions of the genre; after all, you don't want to end up in the paper shredder, together with all the others, now, do you?

A letter of application is a short letter (1 page; max. 2) in which you say who you are, what you do, what you have done, and what the qualities are that make you the perfect candidate. That's a lot of ground to cover in just one page.

A Curriculum Vitae (BrE) or Resume (AmE) is a more technical list that contains further information on your education, diplomas,  specialization(s), previous job experiences, language skills and other qualities.

If things are not quite clear to you, have a look at the sample letter + CV, which, by the way, contains no references to real people or institutions, or at least, not that I know of.
